This article made me feel genuinely sad and mad at the same time! Here’s what the research says: American researches observed more than 17,000 female nurses in their 50’s. All of the women were healthy when the study began in 1976. The women were then weighed and monitored every two years until 2000. The results: For every one-point increase in their Body Mass index, women had a 12% lower chance of surviving to age 70 in good health when compared to thin women.
This is an astonishing finding!!! Now more then ever, we have an important correlation of our weight and our value of life. After working with several people to help them establish better eating habits, I’ve discovered a few things.
Permanent weight loss comes from committing your mind to the task-not just your taste buds! So many of us are feeding our bodies when we really need to be feeding our minds, our souls, our love tank.
Another important measure of how successful someone will be with weight loss. Drinks have calories too! For some reason, when people drink those “extra” treats throughout the day, they don’t equate it to total calories consumed. I ask people to journal their daily intake of all food and drinks consumed, they are truely shocked at how many non-nutritious calories they consume through drinks.
There are wonderful web sites to help you find your Body Mass Index. It’s an important measurement to find out where you are.
Experts consider people with a BMI between 19-25 to be healthy while those from 25 to 30 are considered overweight and those over 30 are obese.
